Sustainable Alpaca

Sustainable Alpaca

For too many years, alpaca farmers in the Peruvian Highlands concentrated on raising white alpacas. Their wool absorbs dye best, and that's what markets demanded. The results: weaker, sicker herds that required antibiotics to survive. Insecurity and increased poverty for people who were already struggling. By creating a demand for colored alpaca wool, we increase the genetic diversity of Peru's Alpaca populations. And here is a far happier result than the last: hardier herds of alpacas and greater economic security for the hard working farmers who raise them.

Organic Cotton

Cotton comes in a variety of gorgeous colors that render dye unnecessary. Rich, natural hues reminiscent of the earth make lovely, versatile organic cotton cloth. Some cotton plants are hardy and want little water. Some could drink forever. Most standard cotton needs loads of pesticides to survive. With a global climate that is changing fast, we must value diversity among all crops. And, as always, choose the path that is softest on the earth. Humane Wool

Humane Wool

Peruvian highland wool makes a soft and sturdy yarn with excellent stitch definition and heirloom durability. Peruvian Highland Sheep are a cross between Corriedale (for durability), and Merino (for softness). Guided over the parched highlands by traditional sheep herders, these sheep are treated with respect and humanely shorn. Their wool comes in a rainbow of soft, natural colors for which they are renown.
